Whats this all about?
Having been into hockey for about 8 years, the game has become my favourite of any sport. The speed, the tenacity, the skill, the everything. Seeing how it all unfolds on the ice, to me, makes it the greatest sport of them all, and nothing comes close. But, with that, I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of the game. It's fine to take the game at face value, and look at plays, goals, passes, saves and all that, both for and against, and take them as they happened, but I wanted to understand why they happened - what was it about that specific play that lead to that chance, that goal, what was the decision making process in that specific pass, that play? And that's what I'm looking to explore with this project, and, if possible permeate it to someone else who might be looking for the same thing
Working in IT I've always had a desire to understand why things work, and more importantly, how. Usually through reverse engineering. That's what I'm trying to do here. This, when applied to hockey, didn't entirely come naturally, and it's not something I've learned just by watching hockey (shoutout Hockey Psychology on YouTube), but once you slow the game down, and get a second look at whats happening, it all starts to make a bit more sense.
Ultimately, I hope you learn something. My writing isn't the best, and I might meander sometimes, but I hope the additional context adds to the understanding and what I'm seeing vs whats happening. And, above all else - Thank you for taking the time to read the articles. It means a lot ♥
